Headline paper by the historic mill of Izumo Mingei-shi Kobo -- A central figure in the Mingei movement, parallel to the Arts and Crafts.

This is the paper to which the late Abe Eishiro dedicated his life. The exquisite paper expresses everything about the mill. Restrained aesthetics with intelligent presence. A mix of high papermaking and authentic rural handcrafts.

Extra fine ganpi surface is glossy, elegant and tasteful.

The paper gives sharp edges for calligraphy and drawings. Great for printing.

Made of 100% locally harvested ganpi. Dried on solid timber. The high sheen surface is left with slight but definite marks of timber veins from the drying board. Generous long format takes full advantage of the marks.

Vein patterns are different on each sheet.

Produced by Izumo Mingei-shi Kobo

Honoka Masuda

The late Abe Eishiro established Izumo Mingei-shi Kobo in 1933 in the midst of the Mingei movement as the central mill upholding the true value and quality of Mingei-shi folk art papers. The secluded mill in a valley on inland Izumo is the embodiment of the Mingei spirit in their rural setting, the methods, the tools, the ambience, the personalities and the materials. The mill’s papers are uniquely local and the continuation of the history of papers in this particular region. The rich wilderness that surrounds the mill provides a rare wealth of resources for high quality ganpi – a material that can only be harvested wild.¬†
