Classic, lightweight, pure kozo paper from 100% locally-harvested Sekishu kozo.

This paper is the large-format, single sheets of Sekishu Banshi, UNESCO-registered heritage paper.

Very soft and human to the touch, with delicate elasticity.

Dried on solid ginkgo timber boards, resulting in a typical sharp but gentle silver finish.

The colour is elegant almond-white, will whiten further over time. Fresh sheets may carry a barely perceptible cold tint. Sekishu traditionally uses segments of kozo’s greenish structural layer for extra strength. The tint will also fade with time.

The simplicity of the paper makes it ideal for painting, printing, and calligraphy. The cleanness and the transparency of the production make it ideal for museum conservation and heritage preservation where complete traceability is required. The paper is one of the most lasting papers.

The mill is run by the 7th and 8th generations of the Sekishu family. The long foothold in the area has allowed the family to own the entirety of the production from the cultivation of the quality mulberry kozo/ hibiscus roots to the sourcing of spring water, all within the immediate surroundings of the mill.
