Shingou is the name of a small bridge that separates the upper stream of the Okamoto river, downstream of the urban city of Echizen. Beyond this bridge is where quality papers are made.

High quality contemporary pure kozo paper.

Extremely slight and airy but surprisingly strong.

Rare deckled edged large format

Excellent nijimi/ feathering. Ideal for projects in Chinese ink or other water-based medium.

The generous size makes it ideal for large scale work, but it can be torn into smaller sizes. Kuisaki (meaning moisten along a fine line to pull apart) is a simple method to leave fibrous edges for organic impressions. The same method can be used to produce effective glue margins for the discreet joining of sheets.

Unsized, this paper can be worked with water for feathering/nijimi effects.

Produced in the Iwano Heizaburou mill
